Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role you would work as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) from concept studies, prefeasibility and feasibility studies project execution across a range of mineral commodities, with a strong focus on copper and base metals mineral processing in the areas of comminution and froth flotation.
As a SME, you will be assisting various teams of process engineers to develop process designs for concept studies and projects, providing technical leadership and expertise, and you will be working with teams to help them develop their technical skills. There will be opportunities for site-based work, international assignments and technical specialization based on your performance and your areas of interest.
Major Responsibilities:
- Meet with potential clients, understand their business needs and drivers, and help develop new business with these clients. Work closely with the Marketing and Business Development team (M and BD) including guidance on proposals. As a Technical Expert, support the process team on studies and projects.
- As a Technical Expert, check key process deliverables related to your field of expertise (such as design criteria, mass & water balances, process flow diagrams, equipment sizing calculations, design philosophy etc).
- Industry knowledge on best practices and leading technology appliance.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, procurement, construction, vendors, consultants, and client teams to deliver projects successfully.
- Contribute to the review and optimizations of project design, cost, safety, constructability, and schedule.
- Interface with global OEM equipment suppliers to stay up to date with technological developments.
- Design and lead metallurgical test work programmes.
- Present at local and international conferences
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in mineral processing, chemical engineering or metallurgical engineering.
- Registered with discipline institute with chartered status so as to be able to act as QP in the USA (SK 1300) and Canada (NI 43-101) if required and RPEQ registered for Queensland work.
- Have worked in operations for 5 to 10 years.
- At least 15 years of experience as an engineer working in detailed design in the minerals industry, including direct experience in developing the typical detailed engineering deliverables.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Worked from start to finish of a project – design to implementation.
- At least 20 years of experience in process engineering.
- A strong background in crushing, grinding and flotation.
- Have led studies in their engineering career as a lead process engineer or SME including design and supervision of metallurgical test work programs.
- Plant operational readiness, commissioning and ramp up experience.
- Have experience in the use of process simulation software such as Metsim, Syscad, Bruno, and JKSIMMET.
- Have strong industry and equipment supplier relationships.
- Expertise as an industry-recognized Subject Matter Expert in particular fields of mineral extraction will be highly regarded.
- Well-developed skills in teamwork, communication and problem solving.
- Ability to present internally and externally at major industry forums.
- Strong communication skills and team collaboration
