Project Overview:
The Ranger rehabilitation project is about converting a former Uranium mine, after 35 years of operations, to a thriving native bushland that can be incorporated into the surrounding Kakadu National Park. ERA has engaged the global engineering firm, Bechtel, to support them as a Delivery Partner for ongoing study and execution works. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, it will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru NT community.

Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead the Bulk Material Movement (BMM) work package on Ranger Rehab Study. This is an exciting opportunity to optimize the closure phase of one of Australia’s most important mine sites, developing and implementing an innovative waste stockpile grade characterization methodology to optimize material movement plans. Working Monday to Friday, located primarily from the Brisbane project office the role reports to the Technical Studies Manager.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
Major Responsibilities:
Drive the development and implementation of the Bulk Material movement (BMM) plan to construct the Final Landform across the disturbed mine site to rehabilitate the pits, ponds, stockpiles and other facilities. The study will include an innovative stockpile modelling methodology in collaboration with specialist consultants and site based mine planners, leveraging technical skills in multiple software environments. This role is critical to improving stockpile modelling and refining material movement strategies to optimize delivery of our closure objectives. The successful candidate will form strong working relationships with:
- Site based closure planning and execution teams.
- Your colleagues in the closure study team in Brisbane and Darwin.
- Internal subject matter experts in our Surface Mining and Orebody Knowledge Centre’s of Excellence
The successful candidate will:
- Assist with coordinating all engineering activities for the defined area of responsibility for the full project life cycle, including supporting compliance with standardised processes, systems & tools
- Coordinates the engagement and management of specialist technical contractors / consultants to clarify and optimize bulk material movement work package deliverables
- Provides engineering and technical support to project Construction teams as required
- Works closely with project planning and scheduling to develop and maintain project schedule
- Assists in producing technical reports and project reviews complete with recommendations
- Coordinates project finances to meet project requirements including assisting with the development of operating and capital budgets
- Plans and conducts independent Civil/Structural BMM work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of material movement techniques, procedures and criteria on the project
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geospatial Science or a related field
- Project management experience to drive progress in the BMM workstream to underpin a complex, integrated schedule of work and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to develop strong professional relationships with those stakeholders
- The ability to influence peers, leaders and other stakeholders to ensure bulk material movement is optimized within competing priorities and the evolving knowledge of the technical challenges to be solved
- Proficiency in Block modelling and Geospatial analysis to develop and validate high-resolution stockpile models
- Strong experience using Maptek’s Vulcan package
- Undertake regular travel to ensure effective collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary collaboration across the studies team with the provision of expertise from their relevant discipline across the entire study scope
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to give confidence in the future closure strategy and to drive a culture of collaboration and partnership.
