Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

Job Summary:

As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects.

You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical systems, components and processes.

Your recommendations will resolve technical issues, support project stakeholders and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria for a project or assignment in support of a global business unit​ or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications​. 
  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).​ 
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.​ 
  • Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups​. 
  • When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects.​ 
  • Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.​
  • Provides technical inputs and evaluations in support of the procurement of mechanical equipment, including pre-award activities and post-award support of equipment suppliers.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers in the discipline, and of engineering work planning and control methods.
  • Experience in the design and specification of bulk materials handling equipment and other mechanical equipment commonly used in mining and metals projects.
  • Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. Broad knowledge of industry /regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the mechanical discipline.
  • Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Candidate to nominate any past experience with:
    • Copper projects
    • Hydrogen liquefaction and ammonia production
