Project Overview: 

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminum, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimize environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighboring communities and foster local economic development.

 

Position Summary:

Bechtel Global Logistics (BGL) is seeking a project Senior Logistics Specialist based in Brisbane, Australia to support the above project. The home office – Senior Logistics Specialist will be responsible to supervise logistics personnel and manage the logistics responsibilities on project. The Senior Logistics Specialist performs work as a Logistics technical or commercial role supporting a moderate sized project with moderate scope as a deployed, dedicated resource in the home office or field.

 

Business/project travel may be required at the request of the Project Supply Chain Manager, Project Logistic Manager, BGL Regional Logistics Manager. 

 

This is a fulltime position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.  Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs domestic and international multi-leg shipment responsibilities in support of project requirements to ensure the safe, timely, and economical delivery of goods to meet project requirements
  • Coordinates shipments with requisite internal and external entities
  • Ensures entry of shipment tracking data into Transport Management System (TMS) and other functional tools/systems to provide visibility shipment status
  • Prepares logistics reports or performance metrics as required to satisfy project information requirements
  • Ensures audit and processing of Logistics Service Provider invoices in accordance with project procedures
  • Identifies transport cost and service alternatives to support materials/equipment purchase decisions and use of Logistics Service Providers
  • Assists the project Logistics Lead as requested
  • Files and resolves Logistics Service Provider claims
  • Prepares Logistics Service Provider commercial bid tabs, commitment authorizations and contract documents
  • Prepares logistics studies including site and Logistics Service Provider facility visits
  • Integrates safety requirements and measures in all logistics activities 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 5 to 8 years of relevant experience or 9 to 12 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Home, Field and deployed project experience preferred.
  • Chain of Responsibility (CoR)/ Transport Assurance proficient knowledge, certification preferred.
  • Experience with medium to large scale projects highly regarded

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Career-level position within field
  • Considered skilled and proficient in discipline
  • Professional with an understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors
  • Proficient in speaking and writing English
  • Knowledge of Australia (country) importing and exporting formalities and processes.
  • Knowledge of and experience in all multimodal transport modes – airfreight, sea freight; containerized, LCL, breakbulk, barging, and domestic transportation – including oversize/over mass.
  • Knowledge of and experience in marine conveyance chartering
  • Knowledge of domestic and international trade and delivery terms,
  • Knowledge of industry packing, making, and shipping requirements
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of Incoterms (2020) 
  • Commercial and contractual acumen
