Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

 

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

 

The South of Embley project continues the long-term collaboration between Rio Tinto and Bechtel in Australia. The world-class project aimed to sustain production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for cost, estimating, analysis and other project control activities for projects with significant non-routine requirements or for cost activities which require a high degree of technical skill. You will prepare cost studies, review cost trends, and develop and implement project requirements for cost control. Your detailed analysis will provide innovative solutions to cost engineering challenges. 

 

This is a fulltime position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.  Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership.

 


Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepares contract bid documentation – including pricing schedules, method of measurement, and reporting requirements – to support requests for proposals for medium- to high-complexity purchase orders and construction contracts, for a range of remuneration structures.
  • Review and understanding of Engineering scopes of work in support of the development of pricing schedules and other documentation
  • Provides detailed, specialised cost analysis to support the commercial evaluation of tenders
  • Monitors cost and commitment of assigned purchase orders and contract packages.
  • Performs routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities, as directed.
  • Supports the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems, and reports.
  • Assists with budget allocation and reporting/cost control for specific construction discipline or group of disciplines.
  • Prepares specific budgets in accordance with prescribed standards and procedures.
  • Collects and classifies cost data.
  • Performs budget allocation and reporting/cost control regime for specific construction discipline or group of disciplines.
  • Prepares cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis, and cost and quantity comparisons.

 


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 - 10 years of relevant experience


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in directing project cost engineering, including cost control and analysis, cost reporting, incurred cost assessment and conducting meetings.
  • Experience in establishing criteria for Project Controls cost activities and in cost and commitment and incurred cost analysis and management.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated ability to present Project Controls information to management/client.
  • Advanced level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up work processes, as performed by Bechtel.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

    Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
