Project Overview:
After more than 35 years’ operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community.
Located 8 km east of Jabiru and 260 km south-east of Darwin, the Ranger Project will lead the way in the fast-growing area of mining closures. This role is offered on a 2:1 FIFO roster.

Job Summary:
In this role, you will produce drawings, facilitate discussions, communicate complex technical issues, and prepare civil/structural design estimates and work plan. Your recommendations will ensure designs and work plans are in accordance with project scope, schedule, budget, regulations, and standards. You will collaborate, plan, develop, and coordinate civil design work.
Major Responsibilities:
Leads the development of Civil design work within the Project team, including:
- Develops designs for complete and complex civil/structural engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed
- Creates civil designs including the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawingS
- Produces drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing
- Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of civil/structural engineers, scientists, specialists, designers and drafters
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project leaders
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of civil design estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages the implementation and performance accordingly
- Develops Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices
- Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work
- Reviews key civil engineering drawings to inform the design process
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- High-level experience on complex high value civil projects.
- Advanced knowledge and high-level experience creating civil designs for complete and complex civil / earthworks, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.
