Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

 

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

Job Summary:

As the Regional Quality Manager for APAC & EAMS region, you will develop, maintain, report, verify implementation of the quality management systems, processes and assurance activities across a range of Mining & Metals projects, studies and proposals. As part of the Regional Functional leadership team, and working with multiple project and study teams, you will manage and coordinate the project quality programs, plans and people to ensure that we deliver on our integrated engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning delivery model. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coordinate, supervise, and/or participate in the project/study auditing and monitoring programs, to verify the effectiveness of the quality plans through measures such as; project reviews, KASE Gate reviews, audits, quality dashboards and metrics.
  • Assist projects in recruitment and deployment of Quality assurance roles on projects. Provide functional support, coaching, and mentoring to the Quality resources in the region.
  • Together with the Global Functional Manager for Quality and relevant on-project supervisors, takes part in performance review, professional development, career progression and competency/training programs for quality assigned staff
  • Work with Operations, Functions and Business Development to provide Quality-related input into Proposals.
  • Work with M&M Global Functional Manager for Quality to cascade corporate standards and policies, requirements, communications, lessons learnt, and good practices across the regions. Where necessary develop, modify and cascade updated company policies, procedures and training.
  • Support compliance, retention and renewal of the ISO9001 certification.
  • Support the projects during quality assurance audits conducted by the client, business or regulatory agencies.
  • Actively promote and manage the Lessons Learnt, CLCA, People Based Quality and Quality Absolutes programs in the region.
  • Review and approve quality‑related procedures prepared on the project to ensure compliance with corporate quality requirements.
  • Reviews project schedules for quality‑related activities to ensure timely and effective implementation of the project quality plan requirements and the KASE gate requirements.
  • Participate in customer engagement activities to achieve alignment and describe the collective Bechtel Quality Management System, including the respective roles of Quality Assurance, Supplier Quality and Field Engineering.
  • Other responsibilities as designated.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated leadership component and/or quality assurance program management experience in the construction or closely related industry;
  • Or in lieu of a degree, extensive industry experience with demonstrated leadership component and/or quality assurance program management experience in the construction or closely related industry


 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Lead Auditor certification from an accredited body with demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance requirements, and proficiency in implementation and management of quality assurance programs.
  • A working knowledge of ISO 9001 and its application in engineering and construction projects. 
  • Successful track record of leading teams in complex environments and leadership in management of change initiatives.
  • Experience of leading teams and providing functional support to specialists deployed into other parts of a wider organisation. 
  • Knowledge of advanced techniques for assessment, event investigation, cause analysis, human performance, and corrective action.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design, procurement, fabrication, construction, start-up, commissioning, and operation.
