Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a Project Information Manager (PIM) for project work in Australia. The PIM works with all project functions (including Engineering, supply chain, construction, project controls) to develop and implement project information management plans. A major part of the role is to support the setup and support of Engineering design applications and data deliverables. The role focuses on the exchange of data between applications and related data quality, completeness and reporting. This role will be based in our Brisbane office and may require travel to the jobsite to support the construction team effort.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
Major Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the role are to work with the Project Management Team, Client IT team and Bechtel teams to ensure the project is fully planned, supported, and implemented to Bechtel standards. The role:
- Understands the suite of project applications, data and document deliverables and manages a team to implement and support information systems, data integration and reporting requirements of the project
- Works with all project functions to develop and implement the Project Automation Plan (PAP) in accordance with Bechtel standards and Project functional needs to describe the way in which the Project will be delivered successfully
- Provides cross-functional coordination for project-specific implementation, documentation and training related to application data exchanges and data progress / completeness / quality reporting, in alignment with industry and Bechtel standards
- Works with the Client and Client IT representatives to understand their information and data requirements and incorporates requirements into the PAP
- Manages a team to implement and support Document, Records & Information Management (DRIM), IT infrastructure, information systems and work process automation services on the project
- Reports to project management on current plans, priorities, actions and roadblocks
- Tracks Project IT costs against the budget and identifies changes to the PAP which require trending
- Receives direction and guidance from Bechtel DRIM, IT and EPC functions on current work processes, applications, standards and work processes
- Supports the development of an innovative culture on Project.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Industry experience gained through a recognised degree in a STEM-related field, and/or specialised courses in Information Systems, Engineering or related fields, with 8 -10 years of relevant experience and/or 12-14 years of work experience in a STEM-related field.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
The role requires a strong blend of leadership, stakeholder management, analytical and technical skills. Some key attributes you bring to this role include:
- Strong ability to partner with project teams and client to review and understand end-to-end work processes and IT planning to support study and project execution
- Experience managing people including providing mentoring and technical guidance
- Experience developing and managing budgets, identifying changes in scope and reporting to management
- Knowledge of data models and class libraries and how they impact Engineering, Procurement, Construction work processes
- Able to translate technical information into practical terms for discussion and presentation to broad audiences
- Sound communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment are essential
- Demonstrates a strong safety focus and value the development and maintenance of client relationships that clearly define expectations and responsibilities.
