Project Overview:

Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.

Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.

 

Job Summary:

As a Project HR Manager at Bechtel, you will serve as a team leader in the administration, communication, delivery, evaluation, and issue resolution of key HR activities such as staffing, onboarding, compensation planning, performance management, employee relations and affirmative action plans.

Your leadership will ensure compliance, consistency, and effectiveness of HR activities. 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.  Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs home office and site HR activities including project-specific procedures.
  • Organizes and implements the project's human resources activities; evaluates progress of site human resources activities, reports results, and makes modifications as required.
  • Processes new hires and transfers to the project; prepares human resources status documents; maintains necessary human resources records for project employee files.
  • Conducts on-boarding activities including assisting new hires and transfers in relocating and settling into the area; orientation and initial training and administering employee transfer policy.
  • Oversees travel to/from site including accommodations and booking charter flights to site.
  • Oversees employee site access including medical exams.
  • Other responsibilities as designated. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Level 1

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Level 2

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Project HR experience during engineering, procurement, and construction phases on medium-large projects.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's organizational structure, human resources policies, and procedures. Knowledge of legal requirements affecting human resources administration in the US and Australia. Experience in administration of HR at remote project offices.
  • Experience using Bechtel HR Systems including SAP, HRMS, TalentWorks, Self-Service Forms, and SmartStaff programs.
  • Uses and supports six sigma concepts and principles in the execution of the organization’s work process and scope.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Well-developed communication (written and verbal), influencing, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, flexible and able to work effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience managing numerous Human Resource processes.
  • Experience in several HR disciplines such as Compensation, EEO, Employment & Staffing, Training & Development, employment law etc.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in the development and analysis of metrics used to guide business decisions.
  • Proven ability to exercise a high degree of individual initiative, discretion, and judgment as well as the ability to work effectively under pressure with changing priorities and deadlines.

Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
