Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M Global Business Unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
This position requires an individual with extensive underground mine development experience both in study and execution phases of project development. The role will include scope development at PFS/FS level and into execution, managing both in-house engineering and special specialist mine development consultants.
Will act as primary point of contact on mine development, communicating and presenting to the customer. With a background in mine development will be able to offer solutions and trade off opportunities to optimise scope definition during the study phases. Supervises the development of budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed within budget and according to specifications. Resolves problems and coordinates the final turnover the customer. Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of a high-performance study/ project team where you will ensure scope, design basis and objectives are defined, best practices/lessons learned reviewed, detailed work plans, schedules, budgets, and procedures are established.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for multiple small complex projects or designated large sized highly complex engineering assignments (program) within a global business unit
- Possesses full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments
- Participates in project planning prior to proposals to provide technical guidance in the engineering and construction review of proposals
- Provides input to and owns the engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals and execution) quantities and budgets
- Reviews major changes or deviations in project scope, project material quantities, budget or schedule, and assists particularly with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of the hours involved, and recommending budget adjustment
- Ensures engineering efforts with Project Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) and Project Controls
- Directs the preparation of project studies, reports, forecasts, special engineering reports and plant data book
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Engineering degree, either Mechanical or Civil engineering, is preferred. At least 15+ years’ experience in Mine Design and Construction is preferred
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Job knowledge and technical expertise of mine development both in the study phases and execution.
- Concept and detailed design on underground mines including including shaft sinking, declines and associated infrastructure is essential, preferably with surface and UG material handling systems, pumping and piping networks, compressed air reticulation and ventilation.
- Client Engagement, Presentation and Proposal Development.
- Good understanding of international best practices and industry accepted norms.
- Multi-disciplined engineering is advantageous.
- Mine design and management of design consultants during the study phases.
