Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead a team and interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate the engineering technical aspects for complex projects. You will participate in project planning, proposal review, and will own the engineering elements of capital estimates. Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
Major Responsibilities:
- Management of the scope, schedule, budget, priorities and the sequence of work for the project or assigned portion of a project including supervision of engineers of all disciplines in the Global Business Unit (GBU)
- Inputs to and owns the engineering elements of a project capital estimate proposals and execution quantities and budgets
- Ensures project goals and objectives for the project or assigned portion of the project are integrated with the rest of the project
- Develops design and procurement schedules for approval
- Ensures scope, design basis and objectives are defined, best practices/lessons learned reviewed, detailed work plans, schedules, budgets and procedures are established and executed, including: Execution Plan; Contract Management Plan; Change Management Plan; Plan for addressing critical cross-functional work processes and systems, etc.
- Reviews and approves design documents, change orders, material requisitions and specifications for construction or procurement use.
- Supervises the preparation of, reviews and endorses bid analyses and recommendations for procurement of equipment material and services within Engineering’s scope of responsibility
- When assigned directs engineering activities in preparation of project proposals, including estimates for engineering staffing, quantities, scope reviews, schedules and coordination with Business Development and other functional groups
- Obtains concurrence by the members of the project team, functional management and the Customer
- Promotes the use of constructability reviews during project execution
- Resolves field initiated questions on engineering
- Visits jobsite as required for exchange of information
- Prepares or directs the preparation of project studies, reports, forecasts, special engineering reports and plant data book
- Ensures that Technical Risk Assessments are comprehensive and complete, safety practices and procedures are implemented, and engineering design and corresponding design documentation are in compliance with project Quality Assurance plan and procedures
- Acts as the principal point of contact with the Engineering Manager and Contractor counter-parts
- Assures proper coordination to meet construction schedule, cost and performance
- Responsible for the overall outcome of packages awarded as P.O.s and fully fledged LSTKs; including complete delivery of design, procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning and hand-over
- Identifies quality requirements and ensures the proper processes are identified and implemented to achieve contractual quality commitments
- Assesses customer perception of quality on a regular periodic basis
- Oversees the Environmental, Safety & Health program for both the office and field work environments including contractor and subcontractor activities. Ensures design is in accordance with ES&H laws and regulations
- Promotes the management concept of Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement among all members of the project team
- Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 13 years relevant experience.
- Previous experience performing the above duties in the mining & metals industry
- Experience in delivering SOW and leading multi-discipline teams of Architects, Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers on a major EPCM project
- Exemplary quality and safety record
- Knowledge of front-end activities including:
- Feasibility
- Studies and estimates
- Value Improvement Practices
- Risk Analysis/Contingency Evaluation
- Estimate/Proposal Review Process
- Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling, purchasing, supplier quality and traffic functions.
- Demonstrated knowledge in general shop practices, engineering and drawing control, inventory control, shop scheduling, and supplier procurement activities
- Ability to communicate well with suppliers, projects and supervisors
