Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
As the Process Chief, you will lead a team of process/chemical engineering personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work.
You will be responsible for preparing estimates and work plans and review and approve process/chemical investigations and studies.
Your leadership and technical expertise will ensure process safety and compliance, client satisfaction, resolution of issues, and that project requirements are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day Process/Chemical engineering activity on medium to large sized complex projects that require very major Process/Chemical engineering effort, or may be assigned responsibility for multiple smaller projects within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs.)
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of Process/Chemical engineering personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly.
- Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
- Maintains contact with other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project(s) and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.
- Reviews and makes recommendations of the Process/Chemical aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering.
- Other responsibilities as designated.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Multi commodity experience including copper, gold, aluminium, and metals.
- Has worked in an operating concentrator or downstream processing facility.
- Has worked on international studies and projects.
- Ideally has startup and commissioning experience.
- Prior experience in leading professional teams.
- Prior experience in mineral processing operations and project development environments would be advantageous.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Completely familiar with mineral processing unit operations from primary crushing through to tailings.
- Thorough understanding of scientific engineering systems, calculations, applications and construction methods and materials, and engineering or scientific application with the use of software.
- Understanding of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in the engineering or scientific discipline.
- Knowledge of sector-related design and execution practices and cost influences involved.
- Set high quality standards for key deliverables such as flowsheets, process design criteria, P&ID’s etc.
- Advanced level of verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in multi-cultural environments.
- Ability to interface with plant operational and maintenance teams at multiple levels.
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
- Ability to present internally and at exterior conferences and seminars.
- Maintains an international network of industry associates.
- Well-developed skills in teamwork, communication and problem solving.
- Generate high quality and content technical reports in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.
