Project Overview:

The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people. The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.

Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) work, produce 3D models, drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review and approve drawings, calculations, and bid summaries. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure PD&P designs comply with all regulations and standards. The designs will be centred on mechanical systems and equipment, including materials handling components. 

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. 

Major Responsibilities:

• Leads or administers work of PD&P designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings
• Develops designs for complete and complex 3D model equipment layouts & pipe designs with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed
• Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations
• Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved PD&P design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy
• Participates in constructability reviews
• Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort
• Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents
• Reviews PD&P design scope changes, as required, for project management
• Endorses or prepares reports of work progress, as required, for project and discipline use
• Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Experienced with mechanical equipment 3D modelling and drawing production using Autodesk Inventor and Microstation
• Familiar with the layout, design development, 3D modelling and drawing production of typical mechanical equpment within mining and metals projects with emphasis on materials handling equipment, including conveyors, bins, chutes, feeders, hoppers, mills and lifting equipment
