Then the Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) Ranger rehabilitation project is what you’re looking for!

After more than 35 years’ operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage and offers an exciting opportunity for you to make a positive impact on the environment.

ERA has engaged the global engineering firm, Bechtel, to support ERA as Delivery Partner for ongoing study work. Bechtel are working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. 

A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community. Located 8 km east of Jabiru and 260 km south-east of Darwin, the Ranger Project will lead the way in the fast-growing area of mining closures.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, your major responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria. 
  • Leading and assisting mechanical engineering activities for projects and ensuring that project execution plans, and the development of the design is in accordance with project scope, timeframe and standards.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, vendor packages, reports or proposals​ 
  • Monitoring and assisting in maintaining all required engineering design as per the project Quality Assurance and Bechtel or project procedures.
  • Assisting with scope and budget development in response to clients’ needs.
  • Supervising, reviewing and endorsing bid analyses of equipment, materials and services within engineering’s scope of responsibility.
  • Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups 
  • Support the creation of a work environment that fosters liberal, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation and satisfaction.
  • Mentors and assists more junior team members

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience (CPEng preferred)

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in engineering of process plants or materials handling plants in Australia.
  • Strong knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures and the interaction with the other disciplines.
  • Experience and proven ability to manage mechanical engineering packages.
  • Experience in mechanical construction practices and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
  • Effective communication skills along with demonstrated supervision skills.
  • Solid planning and problem-solving skills.
