Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminum, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world. The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimize environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighboring communities and foster local economic development.
Position Summary:
Bechtel Global Logistics (BGL) is seeking a project Logistics Supervisor based in Brisbane, Australia to support the above project. The home office –Logistics Supervisor will be responsible to supervise logistics personnel and manage the logistics responsibilities on project. The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for moderate/large sized Project, managing a moderate sized team. This role also includes preparation of bid proposals, request for quotation for FEED stage and into Execution – including freight estimates and deliverable documentation; Project Logistics Execution Plans - Module Transportation Study and remote multimodal logistics.
This is a fulltime position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities:
- Project Logistics Lead for moderate/large sized Project, manages a moderate sized team
- Establishes and implements plans, instructions, procedures, and work process improvements
- Ensures the accurate completion of milestone and performance reports to satisfy project information requirements
- Ensures Logistics Service Provider Services are acquired in accordance with Bechtel Corporate Supply Chain Governance
- Provides cost, transportability, Service, and terms and conditions analysis as requested to assist with project proposals, materials/equipment purchases, and the selection of Logistics Service Providers
- Represents logistics at supplier/contractor kickoff meetings to review supplier/contractor delivery and Bechtel Logistics requirements contained in purchase and contract documents
- Prepares and presents Logistics Service Provider commercial bid tabs, commitment authorizations, and contract documents for approval by project and or customer management
- Negotiates Logistics Service Provider agreements to maximize Bechtel’s commercial and technical interests
- Develops logistics costs, job hour requirements and reports for project or functional budget formation and management.
- Oversees Logistics Service Provider performance to ensure Services are carried out as contracted for and to ensure that project requirements are satisfied
- Ensures safety requirements and measures are integrated into all logistics activities
- Interacts with project management to review logistics strategies in consideration of cost, risk, and schedule assessments
- Performs work in a Logistics technical, estimating, operations, chartering or commercial role supporting project.
- Performs domestic and international multi-leg shipment responsibilities in support of project requirements to ensure the safe, timely, and economical delivery of goods to meet project requirements
- Provides functional training within logistics and cross-functional training
- Ensures entry of shipment tracking data into Transport Management System (TMS) and other functional tools/systems to provide visibility shipment status
- Ensures audit and processing of Logistics Service Provider invoices in accordance with project procedures
- Identifies transport cost and service alternatives to support materials/equipment purchase decisions and use of Logistics Service Providers
- Prepares logistics reports or performance metrics as required to satisfy project information requirements
- Files and resolves Logistics Service Provider claims
- Prepares Logistics Service Provider commercial bid tabs, commitment authorizations and contract documents
- Leads the preparation of logistics studies including site and Logistics Service Provider facility visits
- Capability to interact with project management to review logistics strategies in consideration of cost, risk, and schedule assessments
- Prepare and conduct Route Surveys (Desk and field)
Education and Experience Requirements
- Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 to 10 years of relevant experience or 12 to 14 years of relevant work experience.
- Home, Field and deployed project experience preferred.
- Chain of Responsibility (CoR)/ Transport Assurance proficient knowledge-Certification preferred.
- Experience with medium to large scale projects highly regarded.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules/goals
- Provides guidance to and works collaboratively with subordinates within the latitude of established company policies
- Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s)
- Proficient in speaking and writing English
- Knowledge of Australia (country) importing and exporting formalities and processes.
- Knowledge of and experience in multimodal transport modes – airfreight, sea freight; containerized, LCL, breakbulk, barging, and domestic transportation – including oversize/over mass.
- Knowledge of and experience in marine conveyance chartering
- Knowledge of domestic and international trade and delivery terms,
- Knowledge of industry packing, making, and shipping requirements
- Knowledge and practical understanding of Incoterms (2020)
- Commercial and contractual acumen
