Project Overview

The Australia-Asia PowerLink Project (AAPowerLink) is to develop the world's largest Solar Farm (20GW generating capacity) in a remote location of the Northern Territory of Australia, approx. 750km south of Darwin. Power generated will be transported by overland HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission lines to Darwin and then via undersea HV DC cables to Singapore, including major battery storage and converter stations at the Solar Farm, Darwin and Singapore (more information is available at 


Role Overview

Sun Cable, developer of the world's largest solar energy infrastructure network, selected Bechtel as project delivery partner on the Integrated Project Delivery Team (IPDT) which also consists of Hatch, SMEC, PwC and Marsh for the AUD30+ billion Australia-Asia PowerLink, which will supply renewable electricity to Darwin, Australia, and Singapore.


As the Logistics Manager you will be part of the IPDT requiring global interface with Bechtel Global Logistics (function), project management team and key logistics service providers. Sun Cable will integrate a range of technologies and infrastructure to develop one of the world’s largest solar farms, to be located in the Northern Territory, Australia (17-20 GWp); the world’s largest battery (36-42 GWh); and the world’s longest undersea High Voltage Direct Current cable system from Darwin to Singapore (approx. 4,200 km).  


Essential Job Duties

  • Project Logistics Lead for large complex sized Project, manages a moderate team (<6).
  • Establishes and implements plans, instructions, procedures and work process improvements to ensure the safe, timely and economical delivery of goods to meet requirements on a complex project.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate completion of milestone and performance reports to satisfy project information requirements.
  • Ensures Logistics service provider services are acquired in accordance with Bechtel Corporate and Procurement policies and procedures. Provides cost, transportability, service, and terms and conditions analysis as requested to assist with project proposals, materials/equipment purchases, and the selection of Logistics service providers.
  • Represents Logistics at supplier/contractor kickoff meetings to review supplier/contractor delivery and Bechtel Logistics requirements contained in purchase and contract documents.
  • Prepares and presents Logistics service provider bid tabs, commitment authorizations, and contract documents for approval by project and or client management.
  • Negotiates Logistics service provider agreements to maximize Bechtel’s commercial and technical interests.
  • Develops Logistics costs, job-hour requirements and reports for project or functional budget formation and management. Prepares Logistics studies including site and service provider facility visits.
  • Oversees Logistics service provider performance to ensure services are carried out as contracted for and to ensure that project requirements are satisfied.
  • Ensures safety requirements and measures are integrated into all Logistics activities.
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
  • Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies.
  • Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).


Key Requirements / Complexities

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
  • Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Acts as mentor to subordinate(s) to help them meet schedule requirements and/or resolve technical problems.
  • Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; may have budget responsibilities. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization. 


Project Partner Interactions

  • Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.
  • Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
  • Supervises the work of individual contributors and/or skilled, support individual contributors (e.g. technicians, designers, support personnel).
  • Assists with management decisions and activities. Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with other supervisors.
