Project Overview:
The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.
Job Summary:
The Construction Lead Civil Field Engineer is responsible for activities relating to construction engineering within the civil discipline. Duties include interpreting civil design drawings and specifications for execution of civil works, such as excavation and backfill operations, concrete installation, field verification of materials, and technical direction to field civil personnel as required. This position is not considered the design authority for the project, but only to enforce civil construction per design.
Major Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Engineering on constructability and design matters for the civil discipline, including excavation, backfill, concrete works, and mass concrete placement. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Project Engineer, agreeing on civil deliverables and configuration management requirements.
- Manage quantity take-offs, control, tracking, reporting, forecasting, and submission of civil construction quantities, including QURR validation and ePCWorks reporting. Prepare and approve (as delegated) field requisitions for materials, services, equipment, and substitutions, and review material receiving and warehousing to ensure correct delivery.
- Develop and manage the civil construction quality program and specify criteria for temporary construction facilities. Direct preparation of cost estimates and coordinate cost, progress, and forecast reporting in alignment with Project Controls.
- Coordinate with Field Supervision, Subcontractors, and customer representatives to plan and support construction schedules, ensure compliance with design specifications, and manage interfaces for civil data exchange supporting construction automation and project controls.
- Implement controls over factors impacting civil construction progress, including excavation, dewatering, compaction, testing, and material delivery. Administer major civil subcontract changes and represent the company in contractual discussions and negotiations as required.
- Perform other duties as directed by Bechtel management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of six years relevant work experience, or 12 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
- Have working knowledge of construction surveying, excavation and backfill operations, and concrete installation.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
- Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Basic ability to utilize the TeamWorks automation suite as the Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Basic knowledge of Project Technical Requests (PTR) for routing and resolving Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Documents (FCDs), and Non-Conformance/Compliance Reports (NCRs) between project sites, contractors, clients, and home office.
- Basic knowledge of work packaging and basic ability to manipulate completions module and PunchWorks for interface with the start-up team.
- Intermediate understanding of production management including scheduling.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
- Previous supervisory experience within civil discipline.
