Project Overview:

Bechtel helps customers deliver projects of purpose that create a lasting positive legacy globally. These large, complex, and multi-disciplined projects create jobs, grow economies, and provide opportunities for local and regional communities. The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people. The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.

Job Summary:

Electrical & Instrumentation Field Engineer reports to Project Field Engineer and is responsible for activities relating to construction engineering within the electrical and instrumentation and controls disciplines. Duties include interpreting electrical design drawings and specifications, cable installations and terminations, field verification of materials, and technical direction to field electrical and instrumentation personnel.In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. 

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging 

• Prepares construction drawings and sketches.
• Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.
• Direct preparation of cost estimates for electrical and instrumentation construction activities and coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports.
• Coordinate with Field Supervision and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
• Plan and recommend electrical and instrumentation procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.

Material Management  

• Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
• Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment. 

Quantities 

• Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.  
• Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting and forecasting for electrical and instrumentation discipline.

Safety / Quality Control 

• Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. 

Technical  

• Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities 

System Turnover Coordinator  

For Direct Hire  

• Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development. 

STR / Subcontract Coordinator 

• Reviews and approves inspection test plans
• Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals  

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Intermediate understanding of production management including scheduling.
• Intermediate communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
• Previous supervisory experience within electrical discipline.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of AS 3000
