Project Overview:
Bechtel has been selected to enter into an exclusive Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase of a landmark Australian Renewable Energy project to provide a detailed and robust design to support a comprehensive project estimate and schedule.
Following the submission of the ECI the intent will be to move into an EPC phase of the project whereby Bechtel and its JV partner will complete the detailed design and execute the construction of the project. The project scope will include the Balance of Plant design for a large number of wind turbines, reticulation and evacuation infrastructure.
Job Summary:
As the Engineering Manager, you will lead an integrated JV team and interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate the engineering technical aspects for a complex project where you will participate in project planning, resource management, and engineering sub consultant management.
Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for multiple small projects or designated medium to large sized complex engineering assignments (program) within a global business unit.
- Possesses full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments.
- Reviews major changes or deviations in project scope, project material quantities, budget or schedule, and assists particularly with defining the change, obtaining accurate estimates of the hours involved, and recommending budget adjustment.
- Ensures engineering efforts with Project Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) and Project Controls.
- Directs the preparation of project studies, reports, forecasts, special engineering reports and scopes of works.
- Works closely with our JV counterpart Engineering leads to ensure Bechtel processes and procedures are understood and followed correctly as well ensuring consistency in design and messaging to our customer.
- Manages a Project Engineer direct report to ensure their workflow is delivered in a timely manner.
- Manages engineering sub-consultancies to complete detailed engineering.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires Electrical or Civil Engineering bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working on utility scale Renewable
- Energy projects with Australian distribution and transmission network operators, the network regulator and government entities.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Developing governance process for project design changes Coordinating RFIs, TQs, FCDs and NCRs with contractors and engineering consultants.
- Reporting on engineering status from subconsultant engineering.
- Coordinates technical scope with Construction and Commercial functions. Experience with HV plant, wind, solar, batteries and transmission line design, installation and commissioning.
