Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M Global Business Unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will supervise a team of electrical personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve electrical investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive high quality work plans, successful implementation of electrical components, team support and training, and project performance.
As an Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS), you will work as part of an interdisciplinary engineering team to deliver medium to large EPC and EPCM projects. You will lead the design, development, modification, and evaluation of electrical components, systems and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure uniquely complex requirements of a project’s electrical engineering aspects are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day electrical engineering activity on medium to large sized complex projects that require very major electrical engineering effort, or may be assigned responsibility for multiple smaller projects within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
 - Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of electrical engineering personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly
 - Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements
 - Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly
 - Maintains contact with other disciplines to ensure the coordination of the work within the project(s) and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements
 - Reviews and makes recommendations of the electrical aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering
 - When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of electrical aspects of the work
 - Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned
 - Ensures that assigned electrical personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
 - Provides mentoring and coaching for junior members of the team
 - Other responsibilities as designated.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience
 - Current Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) certification in electrical discipline required.
 
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Relevant work experience in detailed engineering preferably in an EPC/EPCM industry for large industrial mining and metals industry plants, power projects, utilities, oil and gas plants.
 - Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computer applications within the Electrical engineering discipline.
 - Experience in design, procurement, construction, commissioning or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities or process plants is desirable.
 - Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods and of precedents in the Electrical discipline and principles and practices of inter-related disciplines.
 - Knowledge of related construction practices and the associated costs.
 - Knowledge of application and coordination of 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools on a project.
 - Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.
