Project Overview:

Bechtel continues to deliver world-class projects across Australia, focusing on sustaining production, minimizing environmental impact, and supporting regional economic development. Our expertise plays a key role in strengthening long-term relationships with local communities and stakeholders. To support ongoing and future project delivery, Bechtel is currently seeking a Cost Engineer & Data Analytics to join the team in the Brisbane office.

Job Summary:

Cost Engineer and Data Analytics is responsible for integrating cost engineering principles with advanced data analytics and business intelligence solutions. The role supports project and functional leadership by developing automated dashboards, enhancing cost reporting accuracy, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the project lifecycle.

This position combines traditional cost engineering (budgeting, forecasting, cost control, variance analysis) with digital transformation initiatives including Power BI development, data modelling, and analytics automation. Bechtel Mining and Metals is seeking an experienced Cost Engineer & Data Analytics with proven capabilities to join our office in Brisbane.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and client cost management procedures.
  • Support month-end reporting
  • Design and develop interactive Power BI dashboards for cost, schedule, and performance metrics.
  • Build data models using DAX and Power Query.
  • Automate reporting processes by integrating multiple data sources.
  • Develop predictive and trend analytics to support proactive decision-making.
  • Ensure data governance, quality, and validation controls.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and reporting optimisation.
  • Support implementation of digital tools within the Project Controls function.
  • Develop data pipelines and structured datasets for enterprise reporting.
  • Contribute to the development of Power BI standards and governance frameworks.
  • Provide training and mentoring to project teams on dashboards and analytics tools.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10  years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Cost Engineering within EPC, EPCM, or PMC projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI (DAX, data modelling, dashboard design).
  • Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Experience integrating cost and schedule data (Primavera P6 knowledge desirable).
