Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will participate in subcontract formation and/or administration. Subcontract formation includes leading preparation and review of bid request packages and developing project contracts operating procedures. Subcontract administration includes continual progress review, forecasting, and communication of difficulties. Your work will ensure subcontract compliance with project requirements.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities:
Subcontract Management
- Implements the Supply Chain Assignment Schedule which records the Project’s agreed assignment of various subcontract management tasks and the Standard Work Process Procedures applicable to Subcontract Management
- Manages assigned subcontracts maintaining a continual review of progress and providing management with information regarding projected financial or technical difficulties
- Coordinates with designated staff on operational activities affecting contractual rights and obligations, subcontract performance, subcontract management and other major matters
- Manages complex contract changes by negotiating with customer personnel and obtaining settlement
- Represents Bechtel in contractual discussions of moderate complexity
Subcontract Formation
- Leads preparation of bid request packages, addenda, and other bid cycle correspondence to ensure proper format, content and project requirements are met
- Reviews bid tabulations for accuracy, bidder recommendation, completeness, and approves selection of suppliers within delegated approval authority
- Reviews and recommends bid selections that require higher approval authority
- Executes commitments within delegated signing authority
- Develops, monitors, and maintains project master contracts forms, including legal and commercial terms and conditions to be included in the project contracts documents
- Directs negotiations and prepares proposed negotiating plan in the commitment and resolution of commercial conditions of contracts when such action is agreed as necessary by the designated supervisor
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive experience in all phases of the formation and award of large, moderately complex construction contracts and services contracts.
- Experience in a wide range of contract types and associated pricing arrangements.
- Experience in negotiating legal terms and conditions.
- Extensive experience in change management procedures pertaining to Requests for Information (RFIs), change notices, change orders, amendments, and claims and dispute resolution.
- Demonstrated skills in working and communicating effectively with all levels of project functional groups.
