Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Chile, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be resposible for the construction and commissioing input into Bechtel's proposals to execute works for key customers in the Australia, Asia Pacific (APAC) Europe, Africa & Middle-East (EAM) region. You will manage direct reports and lead interdisciplinary teams to establish construction methods and support activities. You will oversee the construction process, review plans and specifications for costs and constructability, manage corporate processes and procedures, and lead proposal preparation. Your recommendations for studies, lessons learned, project assessments, and new methods will optimize completion of project construction activities.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership".
Major Responsibilities:
Construction Proposals:
- Develop and document the Proposal Construction Strategy in collaboration with the Capture Manager and GBU Regional Manager of Construction.
- Develop and prepare the Proposal Construction Staffing plan for the proposal
- Attend customer site visits and provide recommend execution strategies as part of the proposal
- Reviews and evaluates new methods and concepts for proposal project execution
- Work collaboratively across Bechtel functional teams (Engineering, Project Controls, ES&H, Supply Chain etc.) during proposal development
Construction Functional Support:
- Provides consultation, technical guidance and direction to Construction and other support functions
- Project Constructability Reviews
- Development of standard construction methodologies
- Oversees the review of standard plans and specifications for constructability
- Champion of Bechtel's Integrated Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Process
- Manages the successful completion of activities related to the construction of assigned projects
- Participate in site audits to ensure compliance with GBU Quality Management System
- Facilitates on site training for the on site Constriction execution teams (Field Supervision & Field Engineering)
- Prepares staffing requisitions as delegated by the Manager of Construction.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Site leadership role on large scale Mining, Oil and Gas or Industrial projects leading multidisciplinary/functional teams (Owner, EPC or Sub-Contractor).
- Experience of proposals on large scale projects preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive experience in developing the construction deliverables required for a multi-functional large-scale project proposal (Mining/Oil & Gas/Heavy Industry preferred).
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to construction pre-planning, mobilisation requirements, field activities, field engineering disciplines, construction technologies and project management.
- Extensive understanding of government compliance standards.
- Familiarity with National Codes and Standards as they relate to construction.
- Knowledge of Construction Automation tools for Completions, Quality and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP).
- Thorough knowledge of Construction Work Processes.
- Knowledge of the Six Sigma and lean construction methodology
- Recognition as a leader in the industry with a proven track record of successful management of construction projects.
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, construction management and/or extensive actual work experience leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
