Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Chile, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for the preparation and execution of all construction management aspects on a Bechtel mining project site for a key customer in the Australian mining sector.
You will manage direct reports and lead interdisciplinary teams to plan and execute site activities, safely, on schedule of high quality, and in a cost-efficient manner, utilising corporate processes and procedures.
Please note, prior to project deployment this role will be office based at either our Brisbane, QLD or Perth, WA offices.
Major Responsibilities:
Construction Development
- Lead the team to develop and document the project Construction execution plans in collaboration with
the Project Manager and the on project functional teams (Engineering, Project Controls, ES&H, Supply
Chain etc.) - Develops and maintains the Construction Staffing plan to execute the works, in collaboration with project
controls. - Attend customer site visits and provide execution strategies as part of the construction strategy
development. - Reviews and evaluates new methods and concepts for proposal project execution.
- Work collaboratively across the Bechtel functional teams.
Provides consultation, technical guidance and direction to Construction and other support functions. - Perform Project Constructability Reviews.
- Development of standard construction methodologies.
- Oversees the review of standard plans and specifications for constructability.
- Champion of Bechtel's Integrated Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Process.
- Prepares staffing requisitions for the construction team.
Construction Execution
- Leads the site team in all aspects of day-to-day construction site execution per Bechtel’s scope of works Ensure adherence to Bechtel’s corporate ES&H, Quality standards and Standard Construction procedures.
- Ensures compliance to the applicable state Acts for Mining. e.g. Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999, and Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Regulation 2017.
- Main point of contact for the Customer and Regulator on the Bechtel project site
- Ensure project schedule and cost reporting is accurate and provide appropriate mitigations as required. Ensure technical issues that arise during the construction process are highlighted early and solutions agreed in a timely manner.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Site leadership role on large scale Mining, Oil and Gas or Industrial projects leading multidisciplinary/functional teams (Owner, EPC or Sub-Contractor).
- Site Senior Executive (SSE) - from MMQ QLD, WorkSafe WA, or equivalent and proven experience performing the SSE role.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to construction pre-planning, mobilisation requirements, field activities, field engineering disciplines, construction technologies and project management.
- Current Mining Site Senior Executive (SSE) accreditation and experience performing the role either for the mine operator or contractor.
- Extensive understanding of government compliance standards.
- Familiarity with National Codes and Standards as they relate to construction.
- Knowledge of Construction Automation tools for Completions, Quality and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP).
- Thorough knowledge of Construction Work Processes.
- Knowledge of the Six Sigma and lean construction methodology
- Recognition as a leader in the industry with a proven track record of successful management of construction projects.
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, construction management and/or extensive actual work experience leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
