Project Overview:

The Yanco Delta Wind Farm (YDWF) project is a 1500MW AC onshore wind farm with an option for an 800MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located 10km north-west of Jerilderie, NSW in the South-West Renewable Energy Zone (SWREZ). There are anticipated to be over 200 wind turbine generators (WTG). 


The Bechtel and BMD Joint Venture (BBJV) has been engaged to execute the civil and electrical balance of plant (cBoP and eBoP) works, which includes design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.

  • Upgrades to the Local Road Network to Council specifications along the preferred transport route; 
  • Site establishment including temporary construction compound, Temporary Workers Accommodation and facilities, and concrete batch plants;  
  • Wind farm entry points, topsoil stripping and bulk earthworks, internal road network and wind turbine generator (WTG) hardstands, and benching for collector substations and connection substation;  
  • Construction of WTG foundations including excavation, blinding, steel reinforcement, concreting, and backfill; 
  • All underground electrical reticulation connecting the WTGs to the wind farm collector substations and connection switching station including all terminations and testing; 
  • Collector substations at four prescribed locations within the wind farm including Reactive Plant;  
  • Connection five bay switching station at prescribed location at northern end of wind farm;  
  • HV 330kV overhead transmission line connecting the collector substations and connection switching station that will be subcontracted out; 
  • Wind farm operations & maintenance facility and control building(s); and 
  • All other balance of plant required for successful connection and operation of the wind farm.
  • The design, procurement, installation and commissioning of the WTGs and BESS are excluded from BBJV Balance of Plant works.  

Job Summary:

In this role, you will oversee all construction and commissioning activities for the electrical balance of plant (eBOP) scope of works. You will work collaboratively with the Construction Manager - Civil Balance of Plant (cBOP), and report to the BBJV Project Construction Manager.

 

During the ECI phase you will lead the organization and direction of construction activities, and during the EPC phase you will oversee site management including supervision of construction and commissioning craft personnel, field engineering, field IS&T, and health, safety and environment (HSE) personnel.

 

Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and clients are satisfied. 

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership/Supervision

  • Manages the organization and direction of construction related activities, including actions of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives.
  • Acts as primary client contact for all eBOP field activities. 
  • Oversees site management including supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting services, and craft resource personnel as applicable.   
  • Maintains client relationship and is the primary contact for client’s communication with the field activities and effective relation with other functional departments. 
  • Coordinates all project eBOP contractual activities. and participates in the development of contract, subcontract, or vendor scopes of work, budgets, contract formation, and negotiations

 

Planning

  • Oversees jobsite expenditures for labor equipment, material and services and ensures field operations are within the budget. 
  • Establishes project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures as necessitated by conditions at a jobsite. 
  • Develops, implements, and administers a jobsite security plan and coordinates the activities with corporate security department. 

 

Safety & Quality

  • Ensures development and execution of safety plans, site survey plan, non-manual staffing plan, subcontracting plan, labor strategy, Construction Execution Plan, and job-site work rules. 
  • Plans and establishes procedures to ensure construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience
  • Preference for a degree in electrical engineering (or international equivalent).

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in the successful management of large-scale substation, switching station, or over-head transmission line projects.
  • Experience in the delivery of wind farms is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage in a collaborative working environment with internal and external stakeholders.
