Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Chile, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be single point of contact responsible for the standardisation and project setup of the systems and processes for construction and commissioning, including Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAP) automation tools or Bechtel Mining & Metals projects for key customers in the Australia, Asia Pacific (APAC) Europe, Africa & Middle-East (EAM) region. This includes ensuring the standard systems and processes are optimised for the project, learnings are carried from one project to another.
You will oversee the construction process, review plans and specifications for costs and constructability, manage corporate processes and procedures, and lead proposal preparation. Your recommendations for studies, lessons learned, project assessments, and new methods will optimize completion of project construction activities.
Major Responsibilities:
- Single Point of Contact for Bechtel's Integrated Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) Process for Mining and Metals in this region.
- Work closely with the project teams to ensure standardisation of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAP) integration as part of initial project setup.
- Ensure the AWP framework is clearly understood and the division of responsibility on project is clearly understood, including project training where required.
- Ensure consistency of team mobilisation and construction site setup across the project portfolio.
- Oversees the review of standard plans and specifications for constructability including undertaking a project gap analysis for the project compared to Bechtel's Construction Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs) and Commissioning Standard Test and Commissioning Procedures (STCPs), dependent on scope and customer requirements.
- Development of standard construction methodologies
- Standardise in region Construction Scopes of Work templates
- Reviews and evaluates new methods and concepts for project execution
- Work collaboratively across Bechtel functional teams (Engineering, Project Controls, ES&H, Supply Chain etc.)
- Provides consultation, technical guidance and direction to Construction and other support functions
- Participate in Project Constructability Reviews
- Participate in site audits to ensure compliance with GBU Quality Management System
- Facilitates on site training for the on site Constriction execution teams (Field Supervision & Field Engineering)
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
- Firsthand experience of an Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) process on a large-scale project preferred.
- Experience on large scale Mining, Oil and Gas or Industrial projects (Owner, EPC or Sub-Contractor)
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive experience in working with Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) for a multi-functional large-scale project (Mining/Oil & Gas/Heavy Industry preferred)
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to construction pre-planning, mobilisation requirements, site and project setup, field activities, field engineering disciplines, construction technologies and project management.
- Thorough knowledge of data-flows both upstream of construction (e.g. Engineering, Procurement Packages) and downstream (e.g. Commissioning and Owners Operations) and the interaction with Construction.
- Experience in standardisation of work processes and site setup, particularly for construction automation tools for Completions, Quality and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP).
- Thorough knowledge of Construction Work Processes and associated construction quality systems.
- Knowledge of the Six Sigma and lean construction methodology
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, construction management and/or extensive actual work experience leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above
