Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
The M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s civil/structural aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
Major Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Civil Engineer(s) on the design and layout of civil / infrastructure facilities.
- Detailed engineering of typical infrastructure facilities including bulk earthworks detailing (in particular slope stabilisation works), detailed earthworks design and specifications (including volume optimization and drainage works), surface runoff drainage works (including hydraulic structures), stormwater drainage network, roads (including culvert, pavement and sealing designs) and underground utility piping (raw water, potable water and sewerage) as well as road and rail alignment design (including optimization of horizontal and vertical alignments), and elevation design and bridge modeling including foundations, abutments, and approaches.
- Ensure the timely preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals, including problem analysis and review of design.
- Perform calculations and basic preliminary analyses.
- Check manufacturer's drawings and data for compliance with specifications.
- Prepare specifications and design calculations.
- Prepare or review engineering studies and reports.
- Assist in developing or review of material quantity estimates.
- Assist in the detailed development of established design concepts for process systems, structures and equipment.
- Use engineering computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD and or CAE) tools as directed.
- Compile, verify and correlate data relating to engineering problems.
- Assist in evaluation of suppliers.
- Provide input to and/or maintains records for equipment and components.
- Assist in preparation of material requisitions, specifications and other related procurement documents.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum experience.
- Knowledge for design of underground services.
- Some experience working in a multi-discipline project team.
- Basic understanding of engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating / basic knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to engineering designs.
- Basic knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design.
- Basic knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved
- Some background in civil / concrete design
