Project Overview:
Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets.
Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M&M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world.
Bechtel are seeking personnel to join multiple existing and upcoming projects comprising copper/gold concentrators with associated ROM feed, ore handling, processing plant, tailings management facilities, and supporting infrastructure including water supply, power supply, maintenance facilities, offices, temporary and construction accommodation villages.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will plan, develop and review design work of both in-house and external design providers. As a senior project engineer you will take ownership of the project’s technical scope within your area across all design disciplines. You will be responsible for coordination of the production of technical drawings, calculations, specifications and material take-offs for a project’s design, procurement and constructability aspects. You will coordinate with external and internal clients, facilitate technical discussions and design reviews, review vendor information, project and client design specifications and collaborating discipline design inputs. You will solve complex technical issues and ensure designs comply with all applicable regulations and standards.
This role will be responsible for the Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) technical scope.
Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s NPI aspects are met.
This is a fulltime position with possible work from home options as per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with function or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans and conducts independent scope of work and technical specifications for NPI design and field investigations on large size projects or assignments in support of a global business unit
- Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of multi-discipline NPI scope components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
- Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the project to which assigned
- Controls and monitors technical scope, identifies scope changes, and participates in the project’s management of change processes
- Coordinates and manages external consultant work scopes, progress and performance management
- Develops conceptual designs for NPI scope areas, inclusive of Civil/Structural, Architectural, Mechanical/Hydraulic, and Electrical engineering projects
- Interviews client personnel to determine their needs, develops scope for cost estimates for services and participates in proposal preparation and presentation
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
- Authors multi-discipline Service Requisitions, particicipates in the bid-evaluate-award cycle and prepares/reviews Technical Bid Evaluations
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience of leading multi-discipline engineering design teams within the minerals processing industry delivering Feasibility and Execution project phases in an EPC or EPCM environment
- Experience with minerals handling process plant design, specifically slurry pumping and handling, conveyor, chute, tank sizing and selection calculations.
- Experience with civil non-process infrastructure engineering design delivery and construction support, specifically site road and pads, occupied and non-occupied buildings, water and tailings storage facilities.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical non-process infrastructure engineering design delivery and construction support, specifically air/water/power/communications utilities reticualtion and high voltage service reticulation
- Experience with Bid Evaluate Award processes, specifically preparation of interfacing design-and- construct and construct-only Service Requisitions and their corresponding technical bid evaluations
- Computer skills including competence in MS Office suite and other common software
- Flexibility and enthusiasm for individual and team tasks and proven experience working in a dynamic multi-discipline team environment
- Analytical problem-solving capabilities
- Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication
- Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required.
