Bechtel is a global provider of engineering, construction, and project management services with a reputation for excellence and innovative project delivery. 

An opportunity exists within the Bechtel project team to work closely with our customer on the Jadar Project. Jadar will be the one of the largest greenfield projects ever built in Serbia, and the first delivered by M&M in the country. It will produce approximately 10 percent of the world’s lithium with 56,000 tpa of lithium carbonate, as well as boric acid (286,000 tpa) and sodium sulphate (252,000 tpa).

The Jadar Project consists of the world’s largest deposit (136 Mt) of the newly discovered mineral Jadarite (pronounced “yadarite”). The complex project is located near Loznica, approximately 140 km from Serbia’s capital Belgrade. Jadar includes an underground mine accessed by two vertical shafts, a processing plant, an industrial waste facility and associated infrastructure. 

M&M currently has approximately 30 employees in our customer’s office in Brisbane, with two additional colleagues in Rio Tinto’s Belgrade office. As the project moves into the next phase, the team’s roles will begin transitioning to Belgrade, Serbia. Project execution is expected to begin in 2021. 




In accordance with Bechtel and Project procedures, the Expediting Specialist is responsible for the timely delivery of materials and equipment to meet project needs. 



Whilst this role does not have direct reports it is expected that the Expediting Specialist will provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced or new personnel within the broader contracts and procurement team, as required. 


This role reports to and receives operational direction from the Expediting Supervisor and receives functional guidance from the respective procurement global business unit management.




§ Contacts suppliers to obtain timely submission of engineering data, and to follow-up on material acquisition, production progress and shipment.

§ Evaluates production schedules and progress reports from suppliers to determine if their programs and work progress meet jobsite requirements.

§ Compiles data needed to prepare the critical items reports or other supplementary reports as required. Coordinates the accumulation of data and issues reports for the expediting group.

§ Coordinates with planning and scheduling and construction to establish priorities, sequences, and required delivery dates and instructs suppliers accordingly.

§ Expedites third party engineering providers for the timely review, approval, and return of engineering data submitted by suppliers.


§ Maintains a system to initiate follow-up actions at appropriate times. 

§ Monitors area expediting assignments, reviews expediting reports, and takes corrective action on problems identified in the reports.

§ Updates Bechtel’s Digital Supply Chain System (DSCS) in a timely manner.

§ Obtains copies of supplier’s orders for material, performs sub-supplier expediting, where necessary, and works closely with supplier quality representatives to ensure awareness of materials subject to quality performance and their locations of manufacture.

§ Participates in pre- and post-award meetings to review and discuss schedules and potential problem areas that may impact required shipment dates.

§ Coordinates shipping arrangements or tracking requests with the project traffic representative.

§ Reviews material receiving reports against shipping documents to verify that material has been received at jobsite. Assists in tracing missing material.

§ Subject to project requirements, monitors the issuance of material requisitions, and other project and procurement actions affecting material deliveries.

§ Assists in the development of project specific expediting procedures with the Expediting Supervisor and Contracts and Procurement Manager.

§ Prepares supplier evaluations for input into the DSCS.


The Expediting Specialist is to participate and contribute to continual improvement for the procurement function which includes providing recommendations to the designated manager to improve efficiency, accuracy, quality of the expediting activities.


The Expediting Specialist is to utilise their superior communication skills to:

§ coordinates expediting activities with project management, project procurement, engineering, construction, startup, planning and scheduling, area expediting, and others assigned to the project team.

§ Maintains relationships with suppliers at operational levels to monitor the progress of material and equipment orders.

§ Coordinates with area expediting personnel assigned to perform project visits.




§ Proficient in interpreting schedules to ensure that realistic milestones are established, that required activities occur on time, and that interface between activities is maintained.

§ Skilled in oral and written communication skills regarding technical and production matters with both project and supplier personnel. 

§ Possesses a minimum of 2,000 hours of shop expediting experience, significant experience in project expediting or other procurement related function.

§ Thorough understanding of Traffic & Logistics and Supplier Quality processes.

§ Familiar with developing and tracking metrics.

§ Fluency in written and verbal English.

Salary will be based on current market rates and the posted grade will not be adjusted to suit the successful candidate.
