Project Overview:
Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational projects. Bechtel’s renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, and construction for the Sunfish 2 project, a 360MW DC solar plant in Calhoun County, Michigan.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Site Manager and located at the jobsite. The Deputy Site Manager will supervise field construction team during the construction and start-up of utility-scale solar facilities and provide input to Renewables team on required cost and services, execution methodology, schedule, risks, and strategy during the development and estimating of projects. The Deputy Site Manager will maintain relationships with project personnel, particularly individual discipline group leaders, have ongoing contacts with working and supervisory level personnel of other departments and will interface with the functional construction team in implementing applicable Bechtel construction standards and processes. The Site Manager will also have regular contacts with clients, landowners, permitting authorities, third party inspectors, and government agencies.
Major Responsibilities:
Leadership/Supervision
- Manages the organization and direction of construction and related activities of an area on a construction project
- Acts as primary client contact for all area field activities
- Manages all area activities including actions of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives
- Oversees total area management including supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting services, and craft resource personnel as applicable
- Maintains client relationship and is the primary contact for client’s communication with the field activities and effective relation with other functional departments
Planning
- Manages area expenditures for labor equipment, material and services and ensures field operations are within the budget
- Establishes project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures as necessitated by conditions at a jobsite
- Develops, implements, and administers a jobsite security plan and coordinates the activities with corporate security department
Safety & Quality
- Ensures development and execution of Project Automation Plan, Environmental Compliance Plan, safety plan, site survey plan, non-manual staffing plan, subcontracting plan, labor strategy, Construction Execution Plan, and job-site work rules
- Plans and establishes procedures to ensure construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of all phases of construction operations relating to field activities of all disciplines, all construction technologies and job-site management.
- Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes
- Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.
- Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements and general awareness of environmental laws.
- Knowledge of government compliance standards.
- Heavy industrial US direct hire construction experience
- Experience managing union craft.
- Knowledge of local labor laws and issues.
- Thorough knowledge of the project Labor Management Plan.
- Knowledge of manual craft timekeeping, word processing, spreadsheet and other standard applications in accordance with current Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards.
- Knowledge of project and Bechtel Quality Assurance program.
- Working knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs)
