Project Overview:

Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup for the Sunfish 2 Project for a 360MW DC/309MW AC solar project in Calhoun County, Michigan.

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for supervising and executing electrical activities related to commissioning and start-up. This will require coordinating with other disciplines within the project CSU group to complete all required testing from component level through integrated operation with the rest of the facility. They are responsible for ensuring CSU scope of the associated Electrical work is completed in compliance with the project safety standards, the project quality standards, and the design/specifications; as well as performing general functions inherent in all home office and field positions Position will be on site at Calhoun County, Michigan during the commissioning phase. #LI-VB1

Major Responsibilities:

General

· Leads support of basic Startup Specialist duties of installation configuration validation and work package development

· Participates in the planning and execution of testing as per NETA, and administration activities including LOTO and completions Database

· Responsible for maintaining and ensuring punch list item data and its integrity

· Responsible for reviewing and approving inspection test plans and test records and maintaining quality testing paperwork for successful handover.

· Supervise and direct subcontractor personnel as required to support commissioning activities (eg. Meter and relay testing)

Work Planning & Packaging

· Plans and schedules CSU execution activities including sequence and resource requirements for assigned areas of responsibility

· Prepares Startup Work Packages and Test Work Packages for assigned areas of responsibility

Turnover Coordination

· Participates in Construction to CSU turnover walkdowns for assign areas of responsibility

· Interfaces with the Field Engineer as required to support component/system turnover

Material Mgmt. & Quantities

· Initiates requisitions for field purchases and prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment

· Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for CSU using procurement systems or other database programs as required

Quality Control

· Performs walkdowns to validate that the system configuration is in accordance with the design

· Performs and/or monitors testing of equipment to assure conformance with specifications and compliance with test procedures, that work methods are undertaken safely and activities are supported to meet schedule and cost

ES&H

· Identifies and resolves/elevates ES&H issues in the field and is a visible 'walk the talk' leader in good ES&H practices

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
     

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in Substation construction & testing (NETA) especially on Solar Projects.
  • Experience in the design of Solar facilities.
  • Extensive and broad technical experience of commissioning, startup, operation, maintenance, and testing of Electrical Systems/Components of MV AC collection systems and Substation Facilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering systems, applications of startup and operations; and previous experience in industrial Electrical Commissioning roles.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to startup, maintenance, operations, or testing.
  • Possesses effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner. Collaborates well in a team environment.
  • Good leadership skills & able to supervise craft for testing, startup, and operations activity.
  • Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabrication.
