Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. Our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery next year. The candidate will act as the Area Field Engineer (Siteworks)  on the CCGT Project in Pecos, Texas.

The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, Houston or on project site in Pecos, TX, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to the project in Pecos, TX. This position is contingent upon project award. 

Job Summary:

The Area Field Engineer (Siteworks) is responsible for the organization and direction of multi-discipline field engineering personnel and activities relating to construction engineering, subcontracts, and engineering liaison with the design functional group. #LI-KL1 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with design engineering group for constructability and design issues. 
  • Establish a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer, including agreement on engineering deliverables and overall construction application configuration management. 
  • Responsible for quantity take-off, control, tracking, reporting, and forecasting. 
  • Direct the design of temporary construction facilities as required. 
  • Direct the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment. 
  • Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials. 
  • Coordinate and monitor the interface between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the jobsite. 
  • Develop and manage the construction quality program. 
  • Direct preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinate the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports. 
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and Subcontractors to plan construction schedules. 
  • Develop and recommend the construction field engineering organization and staffing plan for approval by the Area Manager (or appropriate level of Project Management) and prepare employee requisitions.
  • Undertake training needs analysis and develop Field Engineering Training Plan for the project. 
  • Ensure compliance with the implementation, accuracy, and use of all Construction Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs). 
  • Direct preparation of Construction Release Packages (CRPs) / Turnover Packages (TOPs) for submittal to pre-ops. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9 -12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • A minimum of five years field engineering experience in at least one discipline as well as a minimum of two years supervisory experience. 
  • Knowledge of direct hire construction. 
  • Experienced implementing and utilizing Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures. 
  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration. 
  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts. Knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.  
  • Extensive background in construction projects, managing staff, providing leadership, maintaining good client relationships and developing talent within the project. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program. 
  • Computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. 
  • Familiar with current industry quality standards. 
  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner 
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. 
  • Knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
