Job Summary:

In this role, you will technically supervise the Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) compliance activities of the project by inspecting the field execution activities. You will assist the project and construction management in the implementation and compliance with the safety requirements of the project and in the resolution of ES&H problems that arise during the execution of this. You will work directly with other areas of the project (e.g. engineering, construction, subcontracts, procurement, project control, document control) to help them meet the applicable ES&H requirements in their work activities and will perform daily site surveillance to verify proper use of PPE, routine equipment inspections and ES&H project initiatives. The project requires excellent communication skills to develop a strong relationship and communication with stakeholders such as the customer, operations staff, contractors and the Bechtel team.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating various Environmental, Safety and Health areas to facilitate the implementation of the project's ES&H plan and Bechtel's ES&H Management System.
  • Giving safety talks and participating in on-site meetings with project team members and contractors/subcontractors to inform them about safety requirements.
  • Collaborating in the development, implementation and maintenance of Safety, Health and Environmental programs, systems and procedures.
  • Performing statistical analysis of SSMA data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations thereon.
  • Leading teams in conducting risk assessments, studies, mitigation planning and monitoring in response to ES&H issues.
  • Preparing communications, drafting report and preparing documents for program execution and records archiving.
  • Coordinating incident notifications, leading investigations and preparing incident investigation reports.
  • Recommending and implementing improvements in processes, procedures and work activities to minimize the potential for risk.
  • Participating in and occasionally leading employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
  • Participating in all ES&H initiatives developed by the Client and the Bechtel team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree related to environment, safety, health, and 8-10 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in safety, health and environmental assessments/inspections during construction.
  • Experience in the management and/or technical supervision of safety, health and environmental subcontractors or consultants.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards 1926 and 1910.
  • Extensive knowledge of Chilean safety, health and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis as required for incident investigations or the investigation methodology adopted by the project.
  • Knowledge of security and engineering programs, systems, principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of national safety laws and regulations, the requirements and responsibilities of regulatory bodies, current industry standards and practices on ES&H, and best management practices to minimize potential ES&H risks during project execution.
