Job Summary:

Bechtel is looking for a Senior CSA Engineer who has extensive experience with planning and executing greenfield and brownfield projects with a proven track record seeking technical/leadership challenges in civil design of a wide range of technologies. Projects ideally in one of the following, Natural gas processing, Refinery and Petrochemicals, Carbon capture and sequestration, Solar and/or combined cycle power plants, Hydrogen value chain, onshore pipelines.

The role has a range of responsibilities and will focus on planning and scheduling and conducting evaluations, selections of applications and adaptations of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in one discipline in a project or staff group. Arranging detailed phases of engineering work requires judgment in the application of techniques, as well as prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews complex engineering work within a discipline on large, complex projects or assignment in support of a global business unit but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional material and/or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Performs work using Bechtel standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate 2-D and 3-D computer aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools.
  • Plans, coordinates or prepares specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for bulk CSA scope bulk quantities.
  • Plans and coordinates independent work requiring judgement and experience in the application and substantial adaption  of engineering techniques. Devises new approaches to technical problems.
  • Performs most assignments independently with instructions as the general results expected. Receives technical guidance from Engineering Specialist or Supervisor on unusual or complex problems and supervisor approval on propose project plants.
  • When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
  • Provides technical direction and assists work to subordinate engineers, designers, drafter, technician and others who assist int performing specific assignments.
  • Assists in on the job training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations.
  • Independently contacts vendors representative and project field personnel to gather or give information.
  • Contacts client counterparts and lead technical matters resolution as directed and prepares letters to vendors and clients.
  • Performs or assists in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
  • Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and job satisfaction.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of civil/ structural design related experience in Petrochemical, Energy Transition or Oil and Gas industry.
  • Experience in executing Middle Eastern projects, brownfield experience and familiarity with Aramco
  • Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered system, and engineering design calculations.
  • Pre-FEED and FEED experiences in related types projects
  • familiarity, Mathcad or similar software to allow ease of crossover to Bechtel standard application software typically used for engineering design and calculations)
  • A recognized degree in a job related engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, or a professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board.
  • Mentor junior engineers, designers, and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of drainage layout designs and earthworks for energy projects.
  • Broad knowledge of industry codes and standards such as Saudi Building Code, ACI, AISC, PIP, etc.
  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of software appropriate for the relevant sub-discipline (STAAD for structural, Windes or Civil Storm for civil/ drainage, SP3D familiarity, Smartplant review
  • Thorough understanding of the roles played by other engineering disciplines and departments on projects, and their interfaces with the CSA team, including construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication. Able to work in project groups with shared-work teams globally, to progress project deliverables.
  • Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
  • Able to mentor junior engineers.
