Job Summary:
In this role, you will perform routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities and support the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, preparation of cost data, and trend program. You will assist with budget allocation and developing quantity takeoffs, project codes, and application unit rates. Your work will help ensure projects stay on budget and excel.
Major Responsibilities:
- Perform routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities, as directed
- Support the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems, and reports
- Assist with budget allocation and reporting/cost control for assigned engineering or construction discipline or group of disciplines
- Support the preparation of cost data for proposals or contracts
- Develop quantity takeoffs for a specific discipline or specialty
- Develop specific project codes of accounts and recommend appropriate modifications and revisions
- Support the project trend program
- Assists in the development and application of unit rates (cost and job hours) to quantity takeoffs
- As the project progresses, assist in re-forecasts, trend management, and commitment monitoring
- Report to and receive technical and operational supervision from designated supervisor
- Support the development of financial status reporting which includes cash flow and job hours forecast
- Interface with other project personnel, particularly with individual discipline group leaders and engineers in the project office(s)
- In addition to cost control activities, perform basic schedule development, maintenance, and monitoring activities, as directed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in engineering or construction management
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in cost engineering and project controls related functions on complex EPC projects, preferably in the Energy industry
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Candidate will be a self-starter with a high level of energy and motivation and have a basic level of understanding in the use of cost control techniques, databases, spreadsheets, word processing and power point software, and have an aptitude to become familiar with in-house cost control/reporting tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, effective across multi-discipline teams
- Practical knowledge of the cost engineering work processes for engineering, procurement, and construction within Energy projects
- Analytical skills for identifying, investigating, and resolving problems, including early detection of budget deviations through scope change analysis and trending.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially skilled in the use of complex spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, experience with EcoSys and PowerBI is preferred
- Ability to interpret technical processes, engineering drawings, quantity calculations, and financial report
- Intermediate understanding of the full project lifecycle, including engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup, gained through formal training or hands-on experience
