Job Summary:
Bechtel is looking for a Lead CSA Engineer who has extensive experience with planning and executing greenfield and brownfield projects with a proven track record seeking technical/leadership challenges in civil design of a wide range of technologies. Projects ideally in one of the following, Natural gas processing, Refinery and Petrochemicals, Carbon capture and sequestration, Solar and/or combined cycle power plants, Hydrogen value chain, onshore pipelines,
The role has a range of responsibilities and will focus on planning and scheduling and conducting evaluations, selections of applications and adaptations of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in one discipline in a project or staff group. Arranging detailed phases of engineering work requires judgment in the application of techniques, as well as prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
Major Responsibilities:
- Leads and oversees advanced engineering tasks within the Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) discipline for major projects or assignments supporting a global business unit.
- Coordinates technical activities of CSA engineers, scientists, designers, and drafters, ensuring seamless integration with other project disciplines.
- Facilitates technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to drive informed decisions and solutions. Manages the development and review of CSA discipline estimates, quantity take-offs, and work plans according to the project's scope, budget, and interdisciplinary schedules, overseeing implementation and progress.
- Works closely with client representatives to secure approvals for project phases and reviews critical documents such as bid summaries, major drawings, staffing projections, and schedules. Approves essential engineering drawings and calculations, including both design and field documentation related to the CSA discipline. Ensures effective coordination of assigned engineering work within various project groups, promoting collaborative project execution.
- Mentors and trains engineers, scientists, designers, and drafters, providing hands-on guidance to foster their professional growth. Communicates openly and confidently on all CSA-related technical and business matters throughout the organization. Champions a work culture rooted in openness, trust, teamwork, communication, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction, supported by leadership.
- Supervises design contractors’ work, including design production and reviews, dashboard reporting, evaluation of earned progress, assessment of staffing levels, design quality, and coordination across disciplines and entities. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs), and applicable administrative practices.
- Provides technical support to resolve construction and startup challenges as needed. Possesses the expertise to independently develop deliverables and conduct design reviews when required. Clearly communicates complex technical issues and recommends effective solutions to senior project engineering management, ensuring project goals and standards are consistently met.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Skilled in oral and written communication. Able to work in project groups with shared-work teams globally, to progress project deliverables.
- A recognized degree in a job-related engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, or a professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board.
- At least 15 years of experience in the Energy Transition, Petrochemical and / or Oil and Gas industry.
- Proven track record of leadership in a group supervisor role and strong familiarity with Bechtel’s own work processes and standards.
- Experience in executing Middle Eastern projects, brownfield experience and familiarity with Aramco standards and specifications is highly desirable.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Pre-FEED, FEED and PMC experiences in related types projects.
- Broad knowledge of industry codes and standards such as Saudi Building Code, AISC, ACI, OSHA, PIP, ASCE, etc.
- Thorough understanding of the roles played by other engineering disciplines and departments on projects, and their interfaces with the CSA team, including construction practices and the economics involved.
- Knowledge and understanding of commercial aspects and procurement strategy of Structural Steel, and other CSA bulks
- Thorough understanding of Engineering planning and control methods.
- Knowledge of the application of Engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
- Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
- Able to provide training on CSA design approaches, information needs, deliverables and CSA disciplines interfaces with other disciplines (etc.) for groups within and external to Civil, Structural/Architectural Engineering, as required.
