  • Hourly Range: $20.05 - $27.60 (Determined by function, education, experience, and qualifications of the applicant. A 15% salary uplift is provided on top of base salary for positions that are worked in New York City or San Francisco, which is subject to change depending on market conditions.)

Job Summary:

Bechtel has a strong tradition of technical and engineering excellence in supporting multiple industries. Bechtel's internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a student intern.

 

Government affairs interns will provide support to corporate, business and project teams in a variety of areas including research, communications, Congressional relations, think-tank and association interaction, executive communications, and issues management. Additionally, assistance with data and document management or other non-technical related areas will be provided.

 

The total number of hires and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Location will be in Washington, DC. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs research, writing, and assists in the compilation of background information on specific government affairs issues.
  • Assists in monitoring media articles as they affect Bechtel business.
  • Performs a variety of tasks, including coordinating meetings and events, writing research papers, and meeting notes, developing newsletters for internal communications, and updating government affairs information.
  • Creates information products using WORD and incorporating elements of graphic design.
  • Responds to business inquiries and performs research for special assignments.
  • Represents Bechtel at various forums with associations, Congress, and think-tanks.
  • Demonstrates the character, desire, and commitment to work collaboratively with a team that prioritizes service to internal and external customers, and ultimately, achieving the overarching goals of the enterprise.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology, or another relevant technical discipline at an accredited college or university.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites.
  • Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Proficient in writing, editing, computer applications and operating systems.
