Project Overview

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.

 

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline

 

Position Summary

The Electrical Superintendent is assigned to the field construction organization in a supervisory capacity. Responsible for supervising and directing operations within the Electrical discipline. Supervises and directs craft activities as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance comply with specifications and within schedule and budget. Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions.

 

Responsibilities

The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the planning and execution of all electrical work performed by Bechtel direct hire craft. This includes ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in all aspects of the job. The role involves diligent oversight to maintain a safe working environment, adhering to all safety procedures and regulations. The Superintendent is also tasked with ensuring that all electrical installations meet the highest quality standards.

 

Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:

  • Supervises and directs craft activities as assigned.
  • Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications.
  • Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions.
  • Coordinates and directs single or multi-discipline craft activities within a specific area of the project, or single discipline covering multiple areas of the project.
  • Plans and coordinates the installation of temporary and permanent electrical commodities.
  • Supervises installation of above ground raceways and supports, underground raceways, cable installation, cable and wire terminations, electrical equipment, low and medium voltage equipment.
  • Performs effective planning of all work activities to ensure optimum performance and productivity of direct hire construction work performed on the project.
  • Coordinates with subcontractor work activities and interfaces on the project when required.
  • Interfaces and supports Labor Relations.
  • Optimizes the use of construction equipment and tools on the project.
  • Provides constructability suggestions, input, and feedback.
  • Provides leadership for the safety, accident prevention, and fire prevention programs on the project which includes conducting safety orientation of new employees.
  • Inspecting the site for unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Taking appropriate corrective action to correct all observed problems, leading daily/weekly Plan of the Day and toolbox safety meetings.
  • Ensures that all Bechtel, State and Federal safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied within assigned area of responsibility. 
  • Maintain and promotes a high-quality standard throughout all installations.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering, Construction, or related discipline and 9 years of related experience, or completed an Indentured Electrician Apprenticeship Program and 10 years of related experience, or in lieu of a degree/Journeyman achievement, 15 years related experience with an emphasis on Electrical.
  • Possess the right to work and remain in the US.
  • Related experience includes but is not limited to electrical field engineering; supervision of construction direct hire craft and construction related technical training.
  • Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Basic Field Manual and/or Non-Manual supervision experience with a strong electrical background.
  • Experience in Construction Project Planning and Scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Construction Quality Assurance. 
  • Knowledge of a single or multi discipline construction or engineering operations.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
  • Working knowledge of unionized labor.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and technical database applications.
  • Experience with lock-out/tag-out requirements and processes.
  • Experience with the requirements of NFPA 70E.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Safety Program and familiar with current industry safety standards.
  • Experience in safety compliance and familiar with Bechtel processes and procedures.
