Job Summary:

The Engineering Automation Lead role is core of Bechtel's data-centric execution strategy and digital delivery of the project’s Engineering BSAPs and SCPs, including 3D modeling, P&ID, Electrical and Instrumentation software, Inspec and BIM. The role is responsible for developing and implementing project Engineering Automation/BIM Plan in alignment with Engineering work-process, and Engineering deliverables (data and documents) for the Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls functions. He/she will work with the Project Engineering Manager (PEM), Project BIM Manager, Engineering Group Supervisors (EGS), Application Support Group, and IS&T to develop an Automation strategy, get it implemented and executed successfully. The role demands clear understanding of client requirements (both internal and external) and aligning Project Automation and BIM Execution Plans accordingly.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement complete Project Engineering Automation plan / BIM Plan, including automation scope for each Engineering discipline (3D mode, steel detailing, P&ID, Electrical & Instrumentation, Interoperability, Equipment lists, etc), and Engineering inputs to other functions
  • Support project engineering team in developing Component Numbering Procedure, Project Integration Diagrams and EDP 4.47 (Deliverables to Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls)
  • Work with Project and Cross-Functional teams to implement common data environment like BIM360 and Inspec
  • Support and coordinate with Construction towards implementation of Advanced Work-Packaging (AWP) across Engineering applications
  • Develop and implement 3D model interoperability between AEC toolset (Revit/ Civil3D etc.) and Process Plant toolset (Smart3D/ Plant3D etc.)
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls functions and seek / provide necessary support
  • Develop and implement data quality and quantity dashboards on Project
  • Implement functional automation requirements on the project
  • Develop and maintain lessons learnt on Project
  • Train and upskill project design/engineering teams in automation processes and tools
  • Conduct regular assessments to review the implementation of the engineering automation, and level of maturity achieved on the project
  • Serves as a liaison between IT staff, Application support group, Project Innovation & Information Management Team (PIIM) and Software development team
  • Identify opportunities for cross-functional work process improvements
  • Maximize use of Automation and identify gaps and opportunities for improvement on Project
  • Coordinate with other automation teams on the project to ensure data delivery as per the project data exchange plan.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computers or related science from a four-year accredited college or university and 16+ years’ experience; or in lieu of degree, 20+ years of progressive experience in relevant industry.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience as Automation / Application Support Professional in Engineering, Procurement and Construction industry.
  • Self-motivated individual willing to lead the project’s Engineering Automation implementation with minimal supervision.
  • Good understanding of Engineering workprocesses and deliverables to Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk (Revit, NavisWorks, BIM360, etc), Hexagon (Smart3D, SPID, SPI, SIOP,) and other associated (Tekla, Setroute, Inspec) authoring software, including features, functions, and limitations.
  • Working knowledge of at least two of the Engineering software like Smart3D, Revit, Tekla, CDE/BIM360, SPI, Tekla, INSPEC, and 3D model interoperability.
  • Knowledge of engineering data exchange methodologies – extraction of data from authoring tools, data adaptors, databroker, staging data, Common Data Environment, use of APIs for data aggregation and distribution.
  • Good understanding of Advance Work Package automation requirements for each function.
  • Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate well in a team environment.
  • Proficient in oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities.
