Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Civil Structural Engineering department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T).

 

Assigned to projects to develop civil sitework and drainage deliverables. Responsible for coordinating the work of the civil subcontractors to meet the project technical requirements. Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.

 

Typical Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assigned activities and deliverables within an engineering or design discipline on the projects. Applies broad knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables.
  • Prepares civil site development design calculations and drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings. Assists in preparation of bulk material quantity takeoffs applicable to the discipline.
  • Plans, coordinates or prepares work specifications, technical bid evaluations and award recommendations for subcontracts or material requisitions associated with civil site development.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between Civil Engineering and other engineering disciplines, construction, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Reviews civil site development deliverables and technical documentation produced by suppliers and subcontractor.
  • Assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals associated with civil site development.
  • Assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design associated with civil site development.
  • Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the technical work of subcontract engineers, discipline engineers, specialists and designers.
  • Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.

Skills and Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in civil engineering from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with experience in mid-large scale industrial projects
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the Civil Engineering discipline such as those developed by AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, Asphalt Institute, PCA etc.
  • Prior experience on executing civil siteworks in medium and/or large EPC projects.
  • General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.
  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of 2-D and 3-D CADD, and relevant Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) to perform the work. These include Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil3D, StormCAD, Intergraph Smart3D or equivalent Bentley applications currently in use in the industry.
  • Knowledge of global business unit activities and operations including business development, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in civil group at Bechtel.
  • Chartered Engineer in the UK
  • Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures.
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
