Bechtel Mining and Metals has an opportunity for an experienced person to join our team in Brisbane as Australia Region Risk Manager. Whilst ideally we see this role being based out of our Brisbane office, for the right person, we are also open to discussing this role being based out of our Sydney operations.

About the Role:

As Australia Region Risk Manager, you will be responsible for identification and evaluation of project risks and the selection of appropriate combinations of risk retention and risk transfer techniques in Australia. This is primarily a specialist position which combines risk management/insurance experience with negotiating and influencing skill. However, it also entails regular supervision of Deputy Risk Manager, Administrative Assistants, and clerical staff, as applicable. You will also maintain contacts with clients, insurance and company representatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Participate in contract negotiations with clients and others to obtain necessary protections, making use of contractual risk transfer, risk retention, loss prevention and commercial insurance techniques in a manner compatible with business development objectives.
• Develop alternative risk financing strategies in response to client positions/requirements.
• Initiate recommended language and alternative provisions for responsibility, liability, and insurance matters in proposals, contracts, subcontracts, and other documents.
• Identify and evaluate risks arising from all project activities and available risk financing alternatives.
• Review proposed contracts and bid documents prepared elsewhere to determine adequacy and economy of protection afforded.
• Other duties as designated.

What You Bring:

• Professional experience in risk management and insurance (corporate risk management, broker, insurance carrier underwriting or claims).
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Knowledge of risk, insurance, liability, finance, actuarial principles and concepts, including insurance marketing and underwriting principles.
• Skilled in project contractual negotiations and administration.
• Knowledge of overall Bechtel risk appetite and approach, insurance arrangements and their applicability in project risk considerations.
• Knowledge of complex builder’s risk insurance programs and controlled insurance programs.
