Position Summary

The sustainability intern would support the corporate and global sustainability team in advancing Bechtel’s impact and capabilities in the industry. This includes, among others, acquiring and analyzing data, communications and stakeholder engagement; coordinating internal knowledge management activities; and supporting the corporate sustainability function as needed. The position will be based in Reston, Virginia, reporting to Bechtel’s senior sustainability specialist and the global head and corporate manager of sustainability.

Responsibilities for this position may include, but not limited to:

- Monitor, assess and analyze trending global sustainability issues, regulations, policies, standards, and voluntary practices material to Bechtel’s business
- Support the development of thought leadership papers, blogs, and articles for publication; and update fact sheets
- Help identify and engage external stakeholders to build familiarity and greater understanding of Bechtel’s sustainability performance and initiatives
- Coordinate internal knowledge management activities to advance Bechtel’s capabilities on sustainability
- Provide data analytics supports, including acquiring and analyzing data using analytical tools
- Track and report on the sustainability performance of industry peers, key customers and markets
- Prepare sustainability communications, including internal messaging, presentations, case studies, and website content
- Provide general administrative support to the Global Corporate Affairs team where corporate sustainability is housed, including attending external meetings

Desired experience and qualifications for this position include:

- Currently enrolled in an accredited master’s degree program , with an undergraduate degree in business, public policy, international affairs or international development, OR currently enrolled in a 4-year program at an accredited university seeking a degree in business, public policy, international affairs or international development.
- Relevant experience, including international study and/or work assignments/prior internships (preferably in emerging markets).
- Demonstrated understanding of the connection between business and environmental conservation, social performance, and economic development
- Demonstrated familiarity of major global sustainability principles, standards, and codes of conduct
- Strong skills in research and analysis (quantitative and qualitative), project execution and coordination
- Excellent written, visual, and verbal communications skills (English); able to describe complex concepts to multiple audiences
- Able to deliver quality written reports, recommendations and presentations to multiple audiences using sound reasoning and data
- Self-motivated, proactive and able to execute assignments individually with limited supervision or within a cross-functional team using a collaborative style to achieve successful results
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet tight deadlines
- Have an entrepreneurial spirit to identify and act on new opportunities or improvements
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows programs (Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Outlook), using internet search engines and mobile technologies
- Proficient in data analytical tools, including SPSS, SAS, Watson, etc.
