General Responsibilities and Job Duties

As an intern with Bechtel’s Corporate HR Innovation team, you will influence the transformation of our global HR programs, practices, and tools. Your work will include researching and benchmarking best practices to develop a more strategic HR outlook. This role will also shape the vision and strategy for the transformation of Corporate HR.

Specific Responsibilities

- Recognize and stimulate innovative ideas with high potential impact
- Apply unique skills and interests to develop new opportunity domains
- Ask tough and insightful questions
- Set guiding principles for innovation
- Pulse academia, business publications, industry practices, leading companies, and conferences
- Develop & lead internal Bechtel innovation council groups
- Lead focus groups

Sample Projects

During your internship, you will have the opportunity to provide thought leadership that directly shapes Bechtel’s HR strategies, policies and tools across a range of HR issues. Projects that you may become involved with, or lead:

- Re-design Bechtel’s social media strategy and footprint. Create a social media strategy that allows for targeted recruitment and improves the quality of applicants. Integrate hiring concepts to cater for active job seekers, passive candidates and Bechtel alumni that may be re-hired.
- 20% of your time will be used to pursue an HR-related project of your choosing. You will be able to develop an idea, create a compelling business case based on the knowledge you gain working for Bechtel during your internship and then pitch your idea to Bechtel’s HR Leadership at the end of your internship. Your colleagues in the People Innovation team will help coach, support and mentor you as you bring your idea to life.

Basic Qualifications

- Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Psychology, or Communications, from an accredited college or University
- Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in one of the above fields
- Must be able to work in our Reston, VA office location
- Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to efficiently organize work activities to meet deadlines
- Self-starter, ability to use sound business judgment in carrying out assigned tasks
- Ability to multi-task and maintain confidentiality
- Strong customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Ability to learn new software programs
